The conflict and Armenian casualties have intensified pressure on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, whom the opposition accuses of improperly resolving the conflict, agreeing to a Russian-brokered ceasefire last month. Citizens continue to demand his resignation.
Pashinyan led the march on the first of the three days of mourning, driving to the military cemetery to light candles on the graves of the dead military along with other high-ranking officers.
Although his followers filled the cemetery, his critics entered shouting “Nikol is a traitor”.
Armenia’s opposition called on its supporters to join the national strike on December 22, after three days of mourning, in order for Pashinyan to resign.
