As part of the Chang’e-5 mission, China planted a national flag on the lunar surface. The Celestial Empire has become the third country after the United States and the USSR to have installed its state symbol on a natural satellite of the Earth.
The corresponding image was released by the China National Space Administration.
The images of the flag on the moon were taken with a panoramic camera mounted on the probe. It is noted that for the first time, China has unfurled its national flag on the moon, made of a special fabric. Its weight is only 12 grams.
An ordinary flag, due to the strong radiation and the huge temperature difference between day and night, immediately breaks down. Scientists are known to have spent a year searching for suitable material for the flag.
Recall that the Chang’e-5 mission was launched on November 24 using a heavy rocket March 5 long from the Wenchang Cosmodrome. The device’s soft landing on the Moon took place on December 1. As part of the mission, the module collected soil samples and lifted off from the planet’s surface on January 3.
