The question of the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbass has been postponed until now, but has not been removed from the agenda. Ukraine will need the help of peacekeepers to resolve the conflict in Donbass.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Reintegration of the Occupied Territories, Alexei Reznikov, said this on the air of the Pryamoy television channel.

“The issue of the peacekeepers was discussed at one point by our diplomats at the UN Security Council level. There was a discussion about what kind of mission this mission would be (establish peace or keep peace), where exactly the peacekeepers will be present: all over Donbass, on the demarcation line, on the border with Russia. There was a dispute between two positions and at some intermediate point, theoretically, they could converge, but they postponed it, “he explained.

According to Reznikov, the peacekeeping mission in Donbass could become one of the negotiating topics at the level of the leaders of the four Normandy countries.

“But then the UN secretary general will have to send an assessment mission, then he will make a request for budget funding, and then the UN Security Council should support this funding,” the minister added.

Let us remind you that Ukraine is also considering the option of introducing a peacekeeping mission in Donbass under the auspices of the OSCE.
