Since Saturday March 6, the gas distribution company Donetskoblgaz has cut gas supply to the Donetskteplokommunenergo utility company, the largest heating provider in the Donetsk region. This was reported on the company’s website.

At the same time, Donetskoblgaz transferred all responsibility for what happened to the communal services themselves and to Naftogaz. The press service explained that they have no right to do anything else.

The fact is that the law forces to suspend the supplies if the unauthorized consumption brings to the state losses worth 150 million hryvnia per month (5.5 million dollars). Naftogaz demands to act in accordance with the laws, and Donetskteplokommunenergo has accumulated debts and is not paying them back.

The total amount of debt reached 1,548 million UAH (56 million USD). To resume gas supply, the company must return at least $ 302.1 million (almost $ 11 million). Donetskoblgaz claims that on March 3 he sent a letter to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal with a request to intervene in the situation, but he has not yet responded.

The site “Donetskteplokommunenergo” indicates that the company provides central heating in 34 settlements in the Donetsk region. It operates 189 boiler rooms and employs more than three thousand people.

Earlier this week, Shmygal said that from 2025 Ukraine will be able to source gas independently. Kiev intends to achieve this by increasing production.
