NASA’s Osiris-Rex spacecraft successfully landed on the asteroid Bennu, collecting a handful of space debris to take a sample of its rock and return it to Earth for study after about three years.

Video of the vehicle landing on an asteroid and taking off posted on Twitter Space mission.

The mission team erupted in applause as the Osiris-Rex spacecraft sent confirmation that it had made contact with the 510-meter-wide asteroid Bennu, more than 320 million kilometers from Earth. This historical event was broadcast live.

Following detailed ground control commands near Denver, the spacecraft took almost five hours to descend from its orbit around Bennu.

The spacecraft will return to Earth with its precious samples before 2023.

As reported by “Apostrophe”, November 2, the day before the US presidential election, a large asteroid can fall to Earth.
