The NHL has officially announced the format for the new season, which kicks off on January 13. Each team will play 56 games and the regular season will end on May 8.

In three divisions, where 8 teams are represented, each will play 8 games against a competitor in one division. In the “Canadian division”, where 7 clubs are represented, each will play 9-10 times with an opponent in the division.
The top 4 teams will advance from each division to the playoffs. The playoffs themselves will be traditional: four rounds, a series of up to four wins.
