“As a result of a pirate attack on a ship off the coast of Nigeria on December 16, 8 crew members were captured, including 6 citizens of Ukraine,” the speaker noted.

According to him, the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria and Albania (given that the shipowner is an Albanian company) is taking appropriate response measures.

Now the case is under special control of the Department of Consular Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ukrainian embassies involved.

At the same time, according to the Seafarers Journal, the ship Stevia, attacked in the waters of the Gulf of Guinea, was carrying 15 crew members. The armed pirates took 8 crew members hostage and fled in an unknown direction.

The daughter of one of the captured sailors wrote to the editors of the maritime portal. According to his information, on the ship, his father works as a companion to a senior captain and is definitely among the hostages.

He clarified that of the 8 hostages, 6 were Ukrainians (captain, first officer, second officer, senior mechanic, electrician and viper). 7 crew members remained on the ship.
