The Odessa sailors in the African port of Casablanca repulsed an attack by pirates who attacked the Viking Diamond ship. A member of the ship’s crew, Nikolai Ivaschuk, reported this in the Odessa group as it stands on Facebook.

According to him, the incident occurred on January 1 during the unloading of the Viking Diamond ship, whose crew is made up of 20 residents of Odessa.

“The ship was attacked by pirates. 15 people wearing diving masks and suits, with knives and batons. As a result of the well-coordinated work of the Odessa team, the attack was repelled and the military who arrived in time were able to arrest some of the attackers, “Ivashchuk said.

He said the Odessans detained and neutralized the intruders on their own, but several pirates escaped.

Ukrainian sailors were not injured during the incident. A video posted on Facebook shows the military leading one of the detained pirates.

Recall that in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Nigeria on December 16, armed pirates attacked the Albanian dry freighter STEVIA, took eight crew members hostage and fled in an unknown direction.
