Ukraine’s people’s deputies were not allowed observers in the Georgian parliament elections.
On October 30, Yelizaveta Yasko, the people’s deputy of the Servant of the People, announced it on Facebook. He stressed that the Georgian authorities canceled the permit to receive the plane from Ukraine.
According to Yasko, the trip would take place at the invitation of Georgia’s main opposition party “UNM”, all MPs were registered as observers on the website of the Georgian CEC.
“I am sincerely upset that the trip to Georgia was not possible. Free and democratic elections in this friendly country are important for stability in our region,” she wrote.
The people’s deputy regretted the decision of the Georgian authorities not to allow Ukrainian parliamentarians to participate in the elections.
“… the arrival of observers from a friendly partner country was supposed to be another manifestation of cooperation between states that, in addition to historically warm relations, share common security challenges in the form of Russia’s occupation of parts of territories. Unfortunately, today’s decision goes against these rational considerations, “he said.
Yasko pointed out that despite everything, Ukrainians support the Georgian people and democracy in the country.
“Ukraine is ready to work with the future democratically elected parliament of Georgia, regardless of the configuration of the majority and the name of the prime minister. As for the elections themselves, the unfortunate incident with the blocking of the participation of Ukrainian parliamentarians in monitoring the electoral process is cause for concern, “Yasko wrote.
He called on all participants in the process, mainly the current Georgian government, to adhere to European electoral standards, laws and the constitution.
Earlier, OBOZREVATEL announced that the electoral list of the United National Movement party, founded by former Georgia chief Mikhail Saakashvili, was headed by the famous artist Vakhtang Kikabidze.
