Kherson’s lawyer, Dmitry Ilchenko, said the Kiev District Administrative Court struck down Resolution No. 437 Spelling problems in Ukrainian, which approved the new edition of the Ukrainian spelling.

The human rights activist wrote about this on Facebook.

«Only the District Administrative Court of the city of Kiev satisfied our claim and canceled the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the so-called new spelling, ”he wrote.

According to the lawyer, the reason for the claim was that the government does not have the right to change the spelling, as this is not its competence.

Ilchenko claims that during the examination it turned out that «language commission ”had an important controversy and did not develop the spelling in the version in which it was approved by the government.

The decision takes effect after the appeal review, if the CMU files an appeal.

Ilchenko said he represented the plaintiff, an eighth-grade student at a Kherson school, in court.

On May 22, 2019, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the new edition of the Ukrainian spelling.

The government decree was adopted to guarantee the constitutional provisions on the status of the Ukrainian language and to unify the application of spelling norms.
