This bill needs to be finalized – Zelensky

The NSDC passed a bill to strengthen liability for false statements. It will be presented by the president to the Verkhovna Rada as urgent.

At a meeting of the National Defense and Security Council on Tuesday, December 29, a bill to improve accountability for inaccurate statements was approved, which, after its review, will be presented to the parliament by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, as urgent, according to the press service of the Office of the President.

The head of state, who was present at the meeting, said that responsibility for declaring false information and not submitting a statement should be strengthened.

This is precisely the purpose of the corresponding draft law on the amendment of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine, the Criminal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and other legislative acts to improve such responsibility, which was approved at a meeting of the NSDC and, after review, it will be presented by the President to the Verkhovna Rada as urgent.

“Many of the people’s deputies did not want punishment in the form of imprisonment. Therefore, a compromise bill was adopted. And now we are correcting the mistake. I agree that this bill must be finalized so that there are no disputes about certain standards. ” – Zelensky said.

As previously reported, the president returned responsibility for the lies in the statements. The signed law “eliminates loopholes in the legislation that arose in connection with the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine dated October 27, 2020,” Bankova stressed.

Recall that the NAPC closed six cases of lies in statements. The process is closed in relation to the former people’s deputies, the mayor of Dnipro, judge of the Constitutional Court.
