For the elections, there must be independent observers and the control of the Ukrainian official authorities over the state border with the Russian Federation, Zelensky emphasized.

“None of the Western observers will be able to come there. Therefore, the elections will never be opened there. From the point of view of the security of the situation, there will not be free access for all parties. And this is what it should be: there should be a free choice of the people of Ukraine, “he said. he.

The president stressed that the Ukrainian government must control Ukraine’s border in Donbas.

“At one point in Minsk there is a withdrawal of all illegal military formations from the territory. How will they be withdrawn, where should they go … Then, the transfer of control over the border to us,” he said.

The president also expressed dissatisfaction with Minsk’s negotiating format on the solution of the armed conflict in Donbass.

“Personally I am dissatisfied with the Minsk format and the consistency and wording of some points that were signed. Personally, I am completely dissatisfied with the composition of this format,” he said. At the same time, Zelensky pointed out that there is no alternative to the Minsk negotiation process.

“This is the only format we are working on today. For there to be a dialogue that I am sure will lead to the return of territorial integrity,” Zelensky said.

Earlier, the head of Ukraine’s president’s office Andriy Yermak said that the Kiev official is awaiting a response from the counterpart regarding his plan for a peaceful settlement in Donbass.
