The Novosanzhary District Court of the Poltava region convicted Mikhail Galaka and Konstantin Bigdan, accused of mass riots in February, when Ukrainians evacuated from China were transferred to Novi Sanzhary.
As Konstantin Bigdan’s lawyer Valentina Ryabukh told hromadske, the defendants came to terms with the investigation and were sentenced to 5 years with a probationary period of 1 year.
According to the investigation, Bigdan and Galaka threw bricks, obstructing the passage of buses with evacuated people. As a result, five law enforcement officers were injured.
“There they threw stones, they broke the windows. They did it of their own free will, because then they all stood there, walked in columns. People got scared,” said the lawyer.
Earlier, several more detainees made a deal with the investigation. In general, about the fact of the February 2020 riots, 10 suspicions were reported and 8 criminal proceedings were opened.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, in Novye Sanzhary village, Poltava region, on February 20, more than 2,000 people blocked the road for buses carrying evacuees from the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus was raging.
Large-scale clashes broke out between the security forces and local residents: 10 people were injured.
