Until now, construction of the pipeline has been suspended due to United States sanctions.
Will the Russian gas pipeline be completed “Nord Stream 2“- will be released until the end of May. The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk said this in an interview with Radio Liberty.
He noted that now the construction of this gas pipeline has been suspended “mainly thanks to US sanctions.” The ambassador suggests that construction be suspended “possibly forever.”
“But the fight continues, as the Nord Stream 2 company filed a motion with an independent German regulator that could give this project an exception to EU law,” Melnik said.
He added that such a decision is not profitable for Ukraine. However, in May 2020, the future of this project will be known.
“Today is too early to say what the decision of the German agency will be, since it is not a government, but an independent body, but thanks to the steps taken by Ukrainian diplomacy together with Naftogaz and our partners, we can say with some optimism However, this permit will not grant an exception for Nord Stream. A decision is expected by the end of May this year, “said the ambassador.
Remember, in late April it emerged that Poland intends to confiscate Russian Gazprom’s assets in the Nord Stream-2 project as compensation awarded by the Stockholm arbitration to the energy company PGNiG.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the German Federal Network Agency would reject Nord Stream-2 immunity to the European Union’s gas directive. Therefore, the Russian Gazprom’s demand that Nord Stream-2 be exempt from EU regulation will not be met. Exemption from the rules can only be obtained through a project that complies with the conditions of the German law on energy economy.
