The Fortuna ship will build the pipeline

The construction of the gas pipeline will not be completed by the Akademik Chersky ship, as previously thought, but by the Fortuna barge.

Barge Fortuna has resumed construction on Nord Stream 2, the Nord Stream 2 pipeline operator said on Friday, December 11.

“Tubería Fortuna will lay a 2.6 kilometer section of the gas pipeline in Germany’s exclusive economic zone in waters at a depth of less than 30 m. All construction work is being carried out in full compliance with the permits received.” the statement read.

As a reminder, the Akademik Chersky vessel was expected to continue with the pipeline builders from December 5, but returned to Russia after training.

Note that in August, the Russian company Mezhregiontruboprovodstroy announced that it did not intend to participate in the completion of Nord Stream-2 using the pipe-laying barge Fortuna, which it rents.
