President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had recommended to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal not to introduce a blockade in December.
He spoke about this during a speech to citizens in the evening.

He noted that during the consultations, the authorities weighed all the pros and cons, based on the forecasts of the experts and the opinion of the local government representatives.
“We received assurances from the Ministry of Health regarding the controllability of the situation in the hospitals. And I recommended to the Prime Minister not to announce a closure in December,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, the head of state noted that the weekend quarantine paid off, citing a decrease in the increase in daily cases of COVID-19 infection.
“So we managed to break down this dynamic. And therefore the medical system did not fail in the knockout blows. It adapts and it will resist,” Zelensky said.
But he admitted that there are “specific problems” in the regions, although he promises that the situation will be resolved.
“We want to be prepared for anything. But in general, the situation is under control and does not require the introduction of a blockade in December,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky explained that the lockdown is not being introduced on New Year’s Eve so that companies do not miss “one of the most profitable months of the year”: “And we are not going to spoil the holidays for the people, who we are all anxious about. Because the year was not easy. ” continued the president.
At the same time, he suggested that it would be impossible to avoid a strict quarantine.
“It will be difficult to completely avoid a lockdown in January. I instructed the government to report in detail and clearly next week when the shutdown will take place, what its format is and an exhaustive list of quarantine measures. This will come as no surprise to anyone. And not in a week, but much earlier. A likely lockdown in January doesn’t mean you need to cancel your planned vacation or return tickets. For citizens, the state border will be open both for exit and entry ”, concluded the president.
