The UN’s priority is the problems of destabilization, hunger and migration
The UN predicted a disastrous year for 2021. According to the organization, 270 million people are already starving due to armed conflict and the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2021, humanity can expect a catastrophe: a pandemic, famine, armed conflict, economic recession. Perhaps the worst humanitarian crisis in 75 years, said the director of the UN World Food Program (WFP), David Beasley, at a special meeting of the United Nations General Assembly dedicated to the fight against COVID-19 writes RIA Novosti.
“2021 will literally be disastrous based on what we see at this stage,” Beazley said.
He noted that today 135 million people are on the brink of starvation due to armed conflict. And due to the coronavirus pandemic, the number of hungry people on the planet has risen to 270 million.
The WFP director also added that if funds can be raised, there may not be a humanitarian crisis.
“Next year we will not be able to finance everything. That is why we must prioritize the problems of destabilization, hunger and migration,” Beasley said, adding that then humanity can “survive 2021.”
As previously reported, the UN has called for global solidarity on COVID-19 and AIDS. There is significant progress in the AIDS response, but “the emergency is not over yet,” says the organization.
