In Italy, a new strain of coronavirus was discovered, which was first identified in the UK. Thus, it has already been registered in five countries.
This was reported by the Italian Ministry of Health, reports La Repubblica.
The patient, who was diagnosed with a new strain of coronavirus, returned from the UK with a partner a few days ago. They are now in self-isolation in Rome.
Italy is among several countries that have suspended flights to the UK to prevent the spread of a new strain of coronavirus.
What is known about the new strain of coronavirus
On December 14, the UK announced that a new strain of coronavirus was found in the country. It was registered in 60 districts of the United Kingdom.
In the context of its spread, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said a blockade will be introduced in London and south-east England from December 20. He states that a new mutation in the virus could be 70% more infectious. At the same time, the WHO assures that it is not more deadly.
A new strain of coronavirus has already been found in the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, Italy, and South Africa.
The European Union plans to close passenger traffic with the UK.
