Specialists in Germany and Switzerland have identified a new type of coronavirus infection. This was announced on Thursday, December 24, by the competent state authorities.

Thus, the regional authorities of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany reported that the first case of “British” COVID-19 infection was confirmed in their territory.

According to them, a woman who flew with relatives from Great Britain on Sunday (before the introduction of a ban on air travel with the island state), passed a positive test for the new coronavirus at the airport. Since then, he has been in self-isolation.

In addition, the Swiss Federal Office of Health reported the fixation of two cases of the new COVID-19 strain.

According to the agency, the “British” variation of the coronavirus was found in biomaterial samples taken from two people who live permanently in the United Kingdom, but temporarily remain in Swiss territory.

It is noted that one of the mentioned British nationals confirmed that he is in self-isolation and authorities are trying to contact the second.

It was previously reported that Singapore authorities also confirmed the country’s first case of infection with a new type of coronavirus. The new strain was discovered in a Singaporean student who recently returned from London.
