A case of infection with the British strain of the coronavirus was confirmed in Singapore

Coronavirus infection was confirmed in a student who returned from London the day before.

The first case of infection with a new type of coronavirus previously detected in the United Kingdom was confirmed by the Singapore authorities. On Wednesday, December 23, CNN reports.

According to the Health Ministry, the new strain was found in a Singaporean student who recently returned from London. Meanwhile, the department stressed that “there is no confirmation of the spread of a new type of virus directly in society.”

According to the department, in the period from November 17 to December 17, the coronavirus was detected in 31 people who returned to Singapore from European countries. All patients are in special quarantine centers.

At the same time, it is specified that no more than 10 new cases of COVID-19 were detected directly in the country during the last month. In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 58.4 thousand infected have been detected in the republic, of which 29 have died.

Recall that scientists have discovered the peculiarity of the new British strains of COVID, one of which is 70-80% more infectious than its parent. As a result, new strains of the virus began to dominate the country in mid-December.
