NBU continues to sell currencies on the interbank market in small volumes
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) sold $ 51.10 million on the interbank foreign exchange market during the week of September 28 to October 2, 2020. At the same time, the central bank did not intervene to buy foreign exchange.

Therefore, the NBU continued to sell foreign exchange on the interbank market to support the hryvnia exchange rate, having reduced it by more than half compared to the previous week ($ 160.50 million).
According to the central bank, since the beginning of the year, the NBU bought foreign currency for $ 4509.40 million and sold it for $ 3.574.40 million. Thus, since the beginning of 2020, the net purchase of foreign currency by the National Bank amounted to $ 935.00 million.
As RBC-Ukraine reported, the NBU sold $ 231.5 million on the interbank foreign exchange market in September 2020. At the same time, the central bank bought $ 34.0 million in one month. Therefore, the balance of NBU operations was negative again, minus $ 197.5 million.
In September 2020, the population of Ukraine sold cash to commercial banks for $ 1,483.0 million (equivalent) and bought it for $ 1,347.5 million. Thus, in September there was again a net sale of foreign currency by the population, which amounted to $ 135.5 million, lower than in August ($ 151.2 million).
