The National Bank of Ukraine issued on Thursday, November 26, the first vertical banknote dedicated to the first cosmonaut of independent Ukraine: Leonid Kadenyuk, reports the press service NBU.
“Leonid Kadenyuk – the first cosmonaut of independent Ukraine – this is the first Ukrainian souvenir banknote with a vertical design “, – says the message.
Artists Vladimir Taran, Alexander Kharuk, Sergey Kharuk worked on the design of the souvenir banknote.
The size of the souvenir banknote is 80 × 170 mm, the circulation is 50 thousand pieces (including 40 thousand in a souvenir package).

Reference: Leonid Kadenyuk (1951 – 2018) – Ukrainian Class 1 test pilot, cosmonaut, aviation major general, the first and only independent Ukraine astronaut. In 1997 he flew on the US space shuttle Columbia (STS-87 mission) as part of an international crew. The Ukrainian cosmonaut-researcher carried out a wide range of work in the framework of a joint Ukrainian-American experiment, the task of which was to study the effect of microgravity on the growth and development of higher plants.
