The EU threatened Russia with the review of relations due to the Navalny poisoning
Russia could be sanctioned for human rights violations, says Borrell.
Due to the poisoning of the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the European Union will reconsider its relations with the Russian Federation. This was stated by the head of the European Union’s foreign policy service, Josep Borrell, in the session of the European Parliament on Tuesday, September 15.
Borrell says the EU should approve a sanctions regime for human rights violations and name it Navalny.
“What happened with Navalny should force the EU countries to approve this mechanism, which will be similar to the Magnitsky Law in the United States. Thus, the name of Navalny in the future will be associated with EU sanctions against those who violate the human rights, “Borrell explained.
The diplomat added that Navalny’s poisoning could have consequences for relations between the EU and Russia, and this issue will be discussed at the summit of foreign ministers of the EU member states on September 21.
Remember that Navalny was previously disconnected from the fan. The patient was able to completely withdraw from mechanical ventilation and is becoming increasingly mobile, Charite said.
Navalny’s first photo from the hospital also appeared. The Russian opponent published his first post on Instagram since his hospitalization, telling about his health.
