NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Novichok’s poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny requires a powerful international response. This was announced on Monday, September 21 by Voice of America.
The head of the Alliance also called on the Russian Federation to carry out a full and transparent investigation into the incident, calling it an attack on democratic rights.
“We strongly condemn Novichok’s attack on Alexei Navalny. I call on Russia to carry out a full and transparent investigation of this terrible attack. This is not just an attack on one person, it is an attack on fundamental democratic rights,” emphasized the political.
Furthermore, the use of chemical weapons is a serious violation of international law, in particular of the Arms Control Agreement, the Chemical Weapons Convention, Stoltenberg recalled.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington will respond to the incident with Navalny as soon as the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons confirms his poisoning.
