Ukraine, like Georgia, will be able to join NATO, when all member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance agree.
This was announced on Thursday, March 25, during an online speech by the NATO Secretary General. Jens stoltenber… He added that it is impossible to name the exact time of the two countries that joined the Alliance so far.
“All allies must agree to this. Therefore, I cannot name the time when the allies will consider that Ukraine and Georgia are fully ready to join the Alliance,” the secretary general explained.
He recalled that when it was said at the NATO summit in Bucharest in 2008 that Ukraine and Georgia would become members of the association, no clear deadlines were established.
Stoltenberg noted that the West is helping the two countries move closer to NATO membership, in particular, it is supporting security sector reform, strengthening control over the military and moving closer to Alliance standards.
We will recall, earlier it was learned that NATO plans to strengthen political and practical support for Ukraine and Georgia, which are close and respected partners of the North Atlantic Alliance in the Black Sea region.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the North Atlantic Alliance is concerned about Russia’s aggression. In particular, they see an increase in the missile threat from their side and intend to defend themselves against such actions.
