Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Volodymyr Yelchenko, was invited to launch the Antares launch vehicle, created with the participation of Ukrainian companies.

An Antares launch vehicle was launched at the Wallops Island Cosmodrome in Virginia (USA). It is a project that American and Ukrainian space companies have been working on together for several years, the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States said on Facebook.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Vladimir Yelchenko, was invited to launch the rocket. The embassy noted that the launch was accompanied by additional challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on international travel.

“In April, the embassy actively assisted the American company Northrop Grumman organize a separate special flight to bring a team of specialists from Ukrainian space companies from Ukraine to the United States, without whose participation it would be impossible to launch Antares in time, “the department said.



The Yuzhnoye design bureau, which developed the launch vehicle, noted that Antares had put the Signus automatic cargo transport vehicle into orbit, which will deliver about 3,629 kg of payload to the International Space Station on NASA’s orders.

Antares consists of two stages and the Signus cargo spacecraft (third stage). The main structure of the first stage was developed by Yuzhnoye and manufactured by a state company.Southern machine-building plant named after Makarov “… The main developer of the launch vehicle is the American corporation Northrop Grumman.
