Harutyunyan recalled the entire history of relations between Russia and Karabakh and noted that at all stages of the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict “Russia strictly observes the provisions of international law and the peaceful settlement of the conflict based on the principle of non-use of the force and the threat of force “.

“We highly appreciate the active efforts of Russia and its personal contribution aimed at stopping large-scale military actions and aggression by Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh in Armenian. – “GORDON”), – said Harutyunyan.

He called for the actions of the genocide of Azerbaijan.

“You are a person and a leader with great personal authority in the world and in our region. I ask you to do everything possible to stop hostilities and resume political processes in the conflict zone between Azerbaijan and Karabakh,” added the leader. of the unrecognized republic.

In 1991 Nagorno-Karabakh with the support of Armenia declared its independence from Azerbaijan. This led to hostilities that lasted until 1994. The armed conflict ended with the signing of the Bishkek Protocol on an armistice and a ceasefire, but from time to time armed clashes broke out between the parties. On September 27, 2020, the biggest conflict in recent years broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry accused Armenia of “large-scale provocation”, bombardment of the Azerbaijani army positions and announced the beginning of a “swift counteroffensive”. The Armenian authorities, in turn, declared that the Azerbaijani army had launched an offensive against Nagorno-Karabakh. During the conflict, the parties used tanks, heavy artillery and aircraft. Martial law was introduced both in Armenia and in certain regions of Azerbaijan. Both countries involved in the conflict announced mobilization.

On October 9, during the negotiations in Moscow, the representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh starting at 12:00 on October 10. However, after the start of the truce, both parties accused each other of breaking it. Subsequently, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, reported on several occasions about the taking of settlements in Nagorno-Karabakh under the control of Baku.
