The Armenian Defense Ministry said that the Azerbaijani armed forces launched a large-scale offensive heading south in the Nagorno-Karabakh region in the morning.
As the representative of the Armenian department Artsrun Hovhannisyan said, “our troops are fighting stubbornly, pushing back the enemy,” reports Radio Azatutyun.
Hovhannisyan also said that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces simultaneously launched an intense rocket attack on Stepanakert in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Information on the dead and wounded is being specified, he said.
Large-scale hostilities between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops on the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh resumed on the night of September 27.
Azerbaijan and Armenia introduced martial law and announced the mobilization of the reserve.
Both countries blame each other for the escalation of the conflict and report combat and civilian casualties. According to Baku and Yerevan, the enemy uses heavy weapons and mercenaries.
The international community called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately cease hostilities and to sit at the negotiating table.
