The referee of the match of the 5th match of LE “Gent” – “Slovan” Ekaterina Monzul annulled the substitution of the Belgian midfielder Vadis Ojija-Ofoe.
The midfielder entered the starting lineup, but was injured in the pre-game warm-up. He was replaced on the starting list, Ojija-Ofoe took his place in the stands.
In the second half, the Gent manager decided to release a substitute player. Ojija-Ofoe came out for Kums, but Monzul stopped the match and canceled the substitution. Kums had to go back to the field.
Ukrainian midfielder “Genta” Roman Yaremchuk negotiated with Monzul and helped explain this decision by Ojija-Ofoe.
At that moment Gent head coach Wim de Decker commented on this situation.
“UEFA has allowed us to release Vadis. You have a foot problem. Since I had a calf muscle problem before, we didn’t want to take chances. Therefore, Dorsch entered the start. He took a place in the stands, but we did not exclude him from the application, there was simply not enough space on the bench.
After many phone calls, we received UEFA’s permission to issue it, but the referees rejected this decision. I’ve never seen anything like it. This situation is different than what could happen at this level, ”said de Dekker.
It was Monzul’s European debut in the men’s game.
