On September 8, in Minsk, participants in a demonstration in support of a member of the opposition coordination council, Maria Kolesnikova, were seriously detained.

The corresponding videos were published on the YouTube channel “TUT.BY. Politics” and “Radio Liberty” (scroll to the bottom to see the video).

As can be seen in the recordings, riot police wearing balaclavas grabbed people to try to put them into police vans. Some protesters resisted and clashes broke out. Citizens were thrown violently to the ground, women wrung their hands.

At the Komarovsky market, the protest continued. As you can see in the video, the action was peaceful, the participants chanted “Maria” and clapped.

The Viasna human rights center reported that at least 45 people were detained at the demonstration in Minsk, almost half of them women.

The press service of the Municipal Department of Internal Affairs of the Executive Committee of the city of Minsk confirmed that the police had carried out the arrests.

“We confirm that there have been arrests of citizens for participating in an unauthorized event. They were warned by the police that the event was illegal and unauthorized,” said official police department spokeswoman Natalya Ganusevich. She did not mention the number of detainees.
