Nuclear power units have been planned for a long time.

Instead of the old power units, which are nearing the end of their useful life, it is necessary to complete the construction of two units of the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant and one of Rivne.

It is necessary to build three nuclear power units in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Energy.

According to energy engineers Yuriy Boyko during the Ukraine 30 forum on Wednesday, February 17, it is necessary to complete the construction of two power units at the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant and one at the Rivne nuclear power plant, writes Ukrinform.

“The replacement program of the current nuclear units must be implemented: the construction of KhNPP-3, KhNPP-4. In my opinion, the construction project of the fifth unit of RNPP is even more promising,” Boyko said.

He considers this program to be no less promising than the overhaul and service life of those units whose service life is ending.

The deputy minister added that nuclear energy must be developed, and not only maintain its current state, as it is strategic and basic for Ukraine’s energy.

As is known, Rivne NPP power unit 5 is in the pre-design work stage. South Korean companies are showing interest in its construction.

In turn, the KhNPP No. 3 power unit began to be built in 1985 and No. 4, a year later. Construction stopped in 1990. At that time the third power unit was 75% ready and the fourth 28% ready.

In 2018, the government approved a feasibility study for the construction of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant at a total cost of 72 billion 342 million hryvnia. The estimated construction time is seven years.

Last fall, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy ordered the completion of the job in five years.
