On Thursday, December 31, the court arrested former People’s deputy Maxim Mikitas, suspected of kidnapping, as well as large-scale corruption deals related to the Ukrbud company.
The judge of the Kiev Shevchenko District Court chose a preventive measure until February 27, 2021 without the right to pay bail. Mikitas’ lawyers said they would appeal the court decision.
We add that the prosecution requested the arrest of Mikitas for two months with no alternative to bail, since the developer can influence the witnesses. At the same time, the defendant’s defense said that in such cases, the court did not issue a decision on the arrest. But the court accepted the motion of the prosecution and arrested the defendant.
Recall that on December 30, the meeting on the choice of a containment measure for Mikitasu was postponed due to the dismissal of the judge by his lawyers. Furthermore, initially, the suspect himself did not appear at the hearing, claiming that he had not been properly informed about him. And on December 31, the court met again to choose a measure of restraint for Mikitashu.
