The candidacy of Mikheil Saakashvili, who was recently appointed to the post of head of the executive reform committee, was not considered for the post of deputy prime minister. At the same time, the idea of holding the Georgian politician accountable for reforms in Ukraine belonged to President Vladimir Zelensky.
Saakashvili spoke about this in an interview with Channel 24.
“It is absolutely Zelensky’s idea … that is, the idea of proposing this position was not mine. At first, the Office of the President had the idea to propose it (the position of chairman of the Executive Committee for Reforms – Ed.), not the deputy prime minister. When they proposed to the deputy prime minister, they saw how they resisted. Those in the status quo, found in almost every faction in parliament, are generally opposed to any change. They just opened fire first. I had the impression that it was unexpected for the president, “said the politician.
In addition, Saakashvili also spoke about who opposed his appointment within the Servant of the People faction. According to him, “these were people that most of the leaders and the president personally did not know.” He noted that when a new political force gathers, people arrive who “differ at least in their views, and most of them differ in that they are already under someone.”
Saakashvili also said that he previously had a conflict not with Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, but with the system, and is not interested in confronting the official at this time.
“This is not my role. I do not want to be at the center of the conflicts. I want results. Now a great wave of crisis is coming to Ukraine. I hope that the quarantine can be stopped in the near future,” said the politician.
Recall that on May 7, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky appointed Mikhail Saakashvili as head of the Executive Committee for Reforms.
Earlier, we wrote that, according to President Vladimir Zelensky, Saakashvili should deal with customs reform.
