The German government wants the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to be completed despite US sanctions, which Berlin considers extraterritorial and illegal, German Chancellor Angela Merkel confirmed.
“We consider these extraterritorial sanctions, which extend beyond the United States, to be illegal,” he said during his visit to Stralsund, Dpa reported.
According to the chancellor, the gas pipeline must be finished.
In early August, three US senators are reported to have sent a letter threatening sanctions to the German port of Sassnitz-Mukran, next to which there is a gas receiving station for the existing and the new Nord Stream gas pipeline.
Earlier, Merkel said that the situation with the poisoning of the Russian opposition leader Navalny would not affect the completion of the construction of Nord Stream 2.
We also report that Denmark has finally allowed its completion.
