German Chancellor Angela Merkel proposes to reform the UN Security Council. In her opinion, the permanent members abuse the veto too often.

Merkel’s message on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Twitter published by the president of the German government Stefen Seibert.

In her speech, Merkel complained about the lack of team spirit at the UN and also criticized countries that are trying to tackle problems alone.

“Anyone who believes they can do better on their own is wrong. Our well-being is shared. And our suffering is shared. We are one world,” he said.

In addition, he condemned the frequent use of vetoes in the UN Security Council and asked to reform this body. At the same time, Merkel did not mention the details of the proposed reform.

Note that the UN Security Council consists of 15 members, five of which are permanent: China, Russia, Great Britain, the United States, and France. Permanent members have the right of veto, which can block any decision of the Security Council.

We recall that these days the session of the UN General Assembly begins, which will be held online due to the pandemic. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will speak on September 23.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the UN, already in his speech he stated that the occupation of Crimea and the Russian aggression in Donbass is a war in Europe, and not only in Ukraine.
