After considering the circumstances of the incident that occurred during the Sakhir Grand Prix, when Valtteri Bottas’ front tires were installed on George Russell’s car, the stewards confirmed the infringement of the rules, but were limited to a monetary fine of 20,000 euros.
“It turned out that the cause was a problem in the radio work, when the message that the car # 63 entered the pits before, and not after the car # 77, was not received by the mechanics of the car # 63, because in that same moment the driver of car # 63 spoke to them and the messages overlapped. As a result, the front tires of car # 77 accidentally ended up on car # 63 as the team was making a double pit stop.
Obviously, it is an infraction of the regulations and usually entails a sports sanction up to disqualification, but in this case the problem with the radio communication described serves as a mitigating circumstance. In addition, the team corrected the problem on the next lap ”, says the decision of the stewards.
