The chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform – Party for Life, Viktor Medvedchuk, evaluated the chances of the fifth president of Ukraine, the chairman of the European Solidarity Party, Petro Poroshenko, to become head of state again. He told about it in an interview with the BBC.
According to him, if there are early presidential elections in the next six months or a year, Poroshenko will become president.
At the same time, Medvedchuk believes that the candidates of the Platform Opposition – For Life party also have a chance. “Everything will depend on when the elections are held. There are always possibilities. And not only with us. Everyone has a chance: the People’s Servant, Tymoshenko, Poroshenko and our candidate who will stand for election. Everything in this world is relative, ”he said.
At the same time, he commented on the publication of recordings between people whose voices resembled those of Medvedchuk, Poroshenko and the former assistant to the president of Russia Vladislav Surkov. The politician did not confirm their authenticity, however, he said that in 2014 he did negotiate on these issues with representatives of the Russian government on behalf of Poroshenko.
On February 26, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced that they would initiate an audit of the audio recording of the alleged conversation between Medvedchuk, Poroshenko and Surkov. The materials of these negotiations will later be attached to the criminal case on terrorist financing, said the head of the department, Ivan Bakanov.
In early February, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, implemented the decision of the Security and National Defense Council to block the opposition television channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK. After his decree, they stopped broadcasting. Personal sanctions were also imposed on the deputy of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Taras Kozak, owner of the Novosti media holding company. The subsequent restrictions affected Medvedchuk, his wife Oksana Marchenko, the natural and legal persons associated with them.
