The head of the political council of the OLE party spoke with the head of the Russian parliament about the “interparliamentary dialogue within the Normandy format”.

After the meeting, Medvedchuk stated that “the parties held consultations related to the” parliamentary dimension of the Normandy format “.

“In March, I met with the chairman of the State Duma, faction leaders, committee chairs, and we began to implement the Parliamentary Dimension of the Normandy Format, since the inter-factional association Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue for Peace was created: Ukraine – Russia – Germany – France in the Ukrainian parliament. Then we held meetings with parliamentarians from Germany, France, Russia and we had extensive plans to implement the meeting format in Strasbourg, “said the parliamentarian.

The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the plans from being implemented, according to Medvedchuk.

“In recent months we expected an improvement in the situation to continue with the implementation of this project, this ideology of the Normandy format. But today there is a need for consultations … The meeting aimed to break the deadlock in the format of the Minsk talks, the Trilateral Contact Group. In addition, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution on July 15, 2020, in which one of the points (point 4) effectively crossed out the norms stipulated by the Minsk Accords, approved by the resolution of the UN Security Council . And it is precisely because of this situation that the negotiations in the Trilateral Contact Group have come to a complete standstill ”, the PLOZ website quotes Medvedchuk.

The People’s Deputy added that “today with Vyacheslav Viktorovich we discussed the possibility of intensifying the issue of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Normandy format, negotiations between the deputies to continue the Minsk talks in the Trilateral Contact Group and help the heads of state that form part of the Normandy format to withdraw from stalemate issue of the peaceful settlement in Donbass “.

Volodin, for his part, said that “the dialogue must be even more active, because much depends on the politicians who can contribute to solving the situation.”

He added that “the Normandy format could play a very positive role, especially within the parliamentary dimension.”
