The crime took place in the city of Conflans-Saint-Honorine, 27 kilometers from Paris. The body of Samuel Pati, 47, a history and geography professor, was found on the grounds of a local university where the murdered man taught.
In early October, Pati showed students aged 12 to 14 cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a class on freedom of expression. After that, the parents of some students complained about him to the school administration and even went to the police. The father of one of the students said on social media that during the lesson, the teacher invited Muslim students out of the classroom, as he would show them a picture that might surprise them, and then showed a photo of a naked man, calling him the Prophet Muhammad.
The alleged killer, 18-year-old Chechen-born Abdulakh Anzorov, who was born in Moscow, apparently did not know the teacher by sight, as he asked university students to show him. In France, Anzorov lived in the town of Evreux, 90 kilometers from Conflans-Saint-Honorine. He did not study with the murdered teacher and did not attract the attention of law enforcement as a radical before.
A few minutes after the murder, a post about him appeared on Twitter. A user with the nickname Tchetchene_270 posted a photo of the severed head and wrote an appeal to the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, “In the name of Allah, the most merciful … Macron, the leader of the infidels. I executed one of your infernal dogs, who dared to look down on Muhammad … ”. The account is currently locked. Law enforcement agencies later confirmed that the alleged offender had left the post on Twitter.
