The Russian investigation has charged Vitaly Markiv, a member of the Ukrainian National Guard, with murder. The charge was filed in connection with the same incident in which he was acquitted by an Italian court.

This is stated in a message on the website of the Russian Investigation Committee.

According to the Russian investigation, on May 25, 2014, near Sloviansk (Donetsk region), Markiv allegedly handed over the coordinates of Russian citizen Andrei Mironov, Italian photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli and French journalist William Roguelon commanding an artillery attack .

The Investigation Committee claims that they were following the railway crossing in Andreevka village and Markiv reportedly opened fire with a Kalashnikov assault rifle to prevent them from leaving the area before the shelling.

“As a result of the artillery attack provoked by Markiv, Mironov and Rocchelli, who did not participate in the armed confrontation, were killed and Roguelon was wounded,” the message says.

It is also reported that the homicide charge was presented taking into account “the testimony of witnesses and other materials from the criminal process.” Markiv in Russia is facing life in prison.

We will recall, earlier, the Russian court arrested in absentia and put Markiv on the wanted list. According to the Interior Minister of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, this is why Russia confirmed its participation in the attempt to falsify the case of the Ukrainian.

Note that in November, the Milan Court of Appeal completely acquitted Markiv after the first instance sentenced him to 24 years in prison. He has already returned to Ukraine.
