It is difficult to say whether this was the effect of the coach’s return after self-isolation, or whether the fact is that Mariupol was deprived of the “pleasure” of crossing Ukraine by bus from West to East and vice versa and spent the previous week resting in Vinniki, but compared to In the previous game against “Rukh”, the Azov team appeared in a completely different way. The first association that emerged while watching the fight was lightness.
But this is one side of the coin. There is another: Lviv. Vitaly Shumsky’s team played a three-game segment, in which they adequately opposed Vorskla, Alexandria and Desna, and even scored six points. This performance sparked speculation that Lviv had finally weathered the crisis. The crisis may be over, but stability is still a long way off. Against the aforementioned rivals, Lviv frankly played the second number, this time they tried it first and were punished for it.
If in the previous round Shumsky played against Desna with three centrals, this time he changed to the classic 4-4-2. In the center of the defense were Makhmutovich and Mikhobi, on the flanks came Grisio (right) and Yakimets (left). The “Lvov” coach made up for Sabino’s absence at the expense of Alexander Romanchuk, with whom Ainsalu performed with the captain’s armband. Shina and Kazlauskas came out on the flanks of midfield, a pair of forwards, Nych and Zakharkiv.
Unsurprisingly, Ostap Markevich replaced Velev: Stasyuk moved to the right flank of the defense, while Gorbunov fell to the left in defense. Chobotenko and Muravsky – a pair of center-backs, Tankovsky was assisted in the support zone by Peterman, a trio of attacking midfielders, constantly changing positions – Ocheretko, Bondarenko and Mishnev, Sikan came out in the lead.
With the opening whistle, “Lviv” indicated a desire to have more ball possession, “Mariupol” had nothing against it, especially since playing on counterattacks is his favorite style. In the end, in fact, Azov ended their first attack with a goal. Gorbunov joined the attack and, on the second attempt, made a serve to the goalkeeper’s line. And there, Daniil Sikan, comfortably nestled between two defenders, hit his head in the corner. Although Kostyk touched the ball with his hands, he could not save the team.
“Lviv” responded instantly, which made for some interesting football. Kazlauskas, after a discount during the free kick, shot from eight meters, but missed the goal. However, it turned out it was an accident, because the home team didn’t hold the ball at all. In addition, when trying to attack, huge gaps were created between the lines of “Lviv”, which the guests enjoyed with great pleasure.
In the 30th minute, the score should have become 0: 2. Gorbunov, attacking in the front row, threw the ball between the defender’s legs and rolled it under the blow to Mishnev. Dmitry hit from 12 meters for precision, but he hit the post and neither teammate could finish it off. However, after five minutes the captain of “Mariupol” entered his name in the protocol. The attack passed through the same left flank. Only the transfer was not given by Gorbunov, but by Ocheretko, who threw the ball into the goalkeeper’s corner. Mishnev launched a rally from there and fell under the far post. Finding no other options, “Lvov” began to beat from a distance. However, Ainsalu, who took responsibility, lacked precision, although in the second case, in the 43rd minute, it was really dangerous.
It is clear that in the second half the people of Lviv were overwhelmed by determination to change the course of events. To do this, Vitaly Shumsky eliminated defensive midfielder Romanchuk in favor of Ernest, more oriented to attack. The game of the hosts in the opponent’s half of the field has been revived, but nothing more. A rebound from Yakimets or a cross from Nych on Zakharkiv interrupted by Chobotenko are half moments. But “Mariupol” in the 60th minute eliminated all questions. Ostap Markevich released Topalov and Kulakov a few minutes earlier, and it was they who organized the third goal. Topalov gave a split pass to Kulakov, who appeared to have lost the run to Yakimets, but at the last moment managed to pass the pass down the right to Ocheretko, who had to slip into an empty frame.
To the honor of Lviv, they did not stop playing and the end of the match was quite nervous. “Lviv” managed to recover a ball – Mikhobi jumped higher than the others when he gave a corner and did not shoot hard, but Oleg Kudryk could not hit the ball. In the future, the Azov team did not give the owners such opportunities, although they finished the match in the minority. On the 88th straight line the red was received by Maxim Chekh, who dropped Chiryak.
If the “Lviv” more or less learned to defend themselves in large numbers and bide their time, then the first attempt to play differently ended in failure. “Mariupol” calmly took advantage of the problems in the organization of the game of Shumsky’s team, thanks to which he climbed situationally to the fifth line of the classification.
