The victory over “Alexandria”, obtained by “Minaj” in this stadium almost a month ago, now seems an exception to the rule. After all, after the Transcarpathian team lost to Olimpik and Dynamo, they hardly took the match with Ingulets to a draw and the game, not up to the standards, has yet to score at UPL. Could you change something in the match against Mariupol? The possibilities were there.
“Minaj” declared his decisive mood in the opening minutes, but then the class difference between the teams appeared. The hosts held the ball, attacked, and the guests were able to score. Daniil Sikan effectively closed the serve from the side, but hit the crossbar. In the future, passes from the flank and depth towards Sikan became the hallmark of “Mariupol” in this fight. Minay was not clear.
The game moved to the middle of the home team’s field and took place there almost constantly before the break. Topalov hit a free kick, his teammate spun the ball directly from the corner flag and Bondrenko accentuated his shot from the area after a cross from Kiryukhantsev. Minay had almost nothing – someone missed the ball during the confusion in Galchuk’s domain, that’s all the accomplishment.
The second part, like the first, began with the activity of the hosts. But now this activity was not an empty throw of the ball, it resulted in a completely dangerous moment. Daniil Knysh went down the left wing and, taking the ball from under him, fired with a target under the far post. Subsequently, Shinder reached shock position (did not score), which made Ostap Markevich nervous – his team’s playing advantage paid no dividends.
The guests also made mistakes in controlling the ball, after which the opponents counterattacked. One of these was almost completed by Nuriyev: Anatoly’s blow was blocked at the last moment.
“Mariupol” expected to win in this match; this can be judged by the active play of the guests with the ball in the other half of the field. Vasily Kobin’s draw did not completely satisfy either, as the first replacements show. Even in the first half, Glagola left the field, and during the break, Kozhanov and Golodyuk. Although these changes were mainly intended to reinforce the team’s action in the middle of the field.
This brought some kind of result, because after the break, “Minaj” no longer seemed like an unprincipled team.
The attacks occurred quite regularly, although “Mariupol” did not lose its old excitement. Penetrating gears from the flank constantly caused problems for the owners, but they managed to defend themselves without interruption. The second half, we can say, was developed in three counts. But the zeros stayed on the scoreboard.
Until there was another penetrating attack from the guests, in whose final phase a controversial penalty was won. Kulakov pushed his way down the right flank and Sakiv brought him down. But isn’t it up to the penalty area? Did “Mariupol” come back for going to Kovalevka? One way or another, Bondarenko realized his opportunity and brought victory to the guests.
Markevich got away with it thanks to perseverance. Or good luck?
