PSG and Manchester United played two different halves at the Parc des Princes. If, before the break, the game clearly evoked a dream, after that the royal wheelhouse began.
Paris started the match so confident in their own superiority that they forgot to turn on the speeds and played more on foot. The “Manchester United”, for its part, remained in deep defense, which further complicated the task of the owners. In fact, in the first half, “PSG” only had a long-range shot from Di Maria and a jab from Kurzava after a pass. In both cases, De Gea played very well.
Mbappé completely disappeared from the radar: this is the merit of Axel Tuanzebe, who, even after a long treatment on his legs, did not give in to the French prodigy. The British had Rashford invisible at first.
“Manchester United” scored his goal out of nowhere: Abdu Gyallo brought down Martial in a completely harmless situation and Mateu Laos conceded a penalty. Keylor Navas deflected Brun Fernandes’ first shot, but the replay showed he was retreating from the goal line. Bruno approached the point a second time, and this time it was accurate.
Surprisingly, “PSG” did not even encourage a conceded goal. Also, before the break, the inert Frenchman allowed the guests to create a couple of more dangerous occasions. And only after a shake from Tuchel in the locker room (we have no doubt that he was strong) did the team start playing their usual football. Mbappé and Neymar increased the pace, the flanks of the defense began to rise higher, the debutant Danilo Pereira performed very well in the counter pressure. Sometimes it seemed like he was already a veteran in the team, everything was so harmonious.
Mbappe could have scored first, but De Gea took a tricky shot from an acute angle. Then there was a series of canopies – Florenzi, Kurzava and even Neymar did not disdain a simple element, and it did pay off – Martial after a corner cut the ball in his. And from that moment the swing began. Or Mbappé would hit dangerously, then Rashford. Paris attacked in a more positional fashion, as expected, but was terribly short on space. Neymar easily beat two, but immediately ran towards third or towards the end of the field. Manchester responded with counterattacks that were terribly absent on the last pass. Even Pogba’s release didn’t fix that.
Fans like this game: a real battle, where the goalkeepers are always in action and the forwards move every two minutes. It’s probably even unfair that one side took the win, but Rashford’s blow at the end was too cold. Navas had no chance to drag him away.
Since “Leipzig” smashed “Basaksehir” in a parallel match, now the Germans and the British are leading the pack. Well, the “PSG” is not to blame, it was necessary to turn on from the first minute or, at least, realize their possibilities after the break. This is not how the finalist of the last Champions League should start the Euroseason.
