12 prisons underwent surgery in Ukraine – Malyuska
Next year there will be a “qualification of the prisons”, the construction of new pretrial detention centers will begin and several prisons will be privatized.
Ukraine’s Justice Minister Denis Malyuska spoke about what they managed to do in 2020 as part of “prison reform”. However, he announced the privatization of at least four prisons in 2021. Malyuska announced it on his Facebook page, illustrating the post with his photo in the image of Santa Claus.
“In 2020, in Ukraine (and probably in the world), for the first time, paid cells (with better detention conditions) appeared in a remand center. This eliminated corruption in the distribution of the best cells, earned money for repair free cameras (we collected almost two million hryvnias. And they have already repaired 25 free cameras) and ensured proper content standards are respected, “the minister said in a statement.
He noted that the number of prisons in Ukraine decreased by 12, in which the conditions of detention were “worse than those of their counterparts.”
In addition, Malyuska noted, the construction of new pre-trial detention centers began in Lviv and near Kiev.
“We were unable to go into the active phase of the Great Prison Sale. Numerous bureaucratic obstacles were prevented. 30/70% – in the special fund and, accordingly, for new construction, 30% – in the income of the general budget. This, although it delays the time a bit, gives us the opportunity to eventually sell prisons in the framework of the small privatization procedure “, – he wrote on the social network of the Minister of Justice.
He also announced in 2021 the privatization of at least four prisons, the publication of the Prison Rating, the opening of new prison infrastructure, the beginning of the construction of new pretrial detention centers, the approval of laws that will completely change the sanctions system. criminal.
Earlier, Malyuska showed a free prison cell after repairs. It was repaired with the money received from the rental of cameras paid.
As a reminder, the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture states in its report that in the Ukrainian colonies there is intimidation and fear of reprisals from loyal staff and prisoners.
