Lyashko said who will receive the COVID vaccine Ukraine

Vaccines are expected no earlier than the middle of next year

Ukraine may receive a British or American coronavirus vaccine after it is approved by the WHO.

Ukraine can receive coronavirus vaccines from Britain’s AstraZeneca and American’s Novavax, Chief Medical Officer Viktor Lyashko said on Friday, October 16.

“Ukraine will receive coronavirus vaccines after their registration by manufacturers and retraining by WHO. We are doing our best to make Ukraine one of the first to receive the vaccine. We entered COVAX, which unites 180 countries. … 92 countries, including Ukraine, will receive the vaccine for free or below the market. Vaccines AstraZeneca will be used for these countries, for 61 countries, and Novavax, for 92 countries, “he said.

The vaccine is expected to be produced in India at the Serum Institute.

“It is expected that there will be several sections of the vaccine to cover at least 20% of the population of priority groups: workers at high risk of infection, workers who respond to emergencies, people with comorbidities, elderly people, workers with a risk critic, school workers, people who live in shelters for the homeless, ”added the vice minister.

The first tranche of the vaccine will be at the level of 3% of the country’s population.

According to Lyashko, COVAX will try to supply a vaccine for each country. The country must ensure product acceptance, cold chain, delivery to vaccination rooms, and vaccination sessions.

On the eve, the academic of the National Academy of Sciences Serhiy Komissarenko said that Ukraine does not have the technical capacity to produce vaccines against the coronavirus, but scientists can develop the vaccine themselves.

At the same time, the Office of the President declares that one of the opportunities for Ukraine to obtain a COVID vaccine is the production of foreign developments in domestic facilities.
