Acting Head Coach of Lviv Vitaly Shumsky said it helped his players celebrate the first UPL championship win over one of the leaders: Vorskla (1: 0).
“There were no special difficulties in determining the starting lineup, as all the leading players were in the ranks. It’s just that yesterday we looked back at our newcomers – Ernest and Vladimir Yakimets in the youth teams duel, where they played half time and made a good impression. The newcomers did not disappoint today, when they entered as substitutes in the second 45 minutes.
In preparation for the fight, we scrupulously analyze Poltava’s last four matches, which are remembered for their lightning-fast counterattack. Therefore, it was important not to expose the rear, to act clearly when the opponent was running. I think the boys coped with the task, satisfied with the discipline of the game and played enough to win. After all, we didn’t notice a few more scoring chances in the second half. However, the last word could have been for Vorskla, but our goalkeeper Orest Kostik saved the penalty.
In my opinion, a draw would be unfair for our team. For whatever reason, many experts called this victory sensational. I don’t think so, the charges just showed they can play soccer, they can take a hit. Having recorded the first victory as our asset, I am sure that we gave an excellent gift to the president of FC Lviv, Bogdan Kopytko, who is on his birthday today. After the game, I was informed that I would act as head coach for the next game on the calendar, with Alexandria. Tomorrow there is no day off, there will be recovery procedures and on Tuesday we will start preparing for the next test. Also, from Thursday we will leave for Alexandria on the club bus, ”said Shumsky.
