This was reported by the Telegram Pool of the First channel, close to Lukashenko’s press service.

“A historic moment: the country is becoming a nuclear power,” he said during a visit to the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

It is worth emphasizing that the nuclear club includes states that develop and produce nuclear weapons, not nuclear energy. There are 13 nuclear powers in the world, including the Russian Federation.

On November 7, Alexander Lukashenko arrived in Astravets to open the first nuclear power plant in Belarus, which is opposed by neighboring Lithuania.

BelNPP is located near the town of Ostrovets in the Grodno region, 50 km from Vilnius. It has been built since 2011 according to the Russian VVER-1200 design. The general contractor for the construction of the nuclear power plant is Atomstroyexport, a Rosatom structure.

Lithuania considers that the Belarusian nuclear power plant is a threat to national security, in August the country sent a protest note and asked that its construction be stopped until it passes all the tests proposed by the European Union.

In November, Lithuania announced its refusal to buy electricity from Belarus after the Belarusian nuclear power plant started generating electricity.
