Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko says opposition Maria Kolesnikova “wanted to escape” to Ukraine, said Russia 1 TV host Yevgeny Rozhkov.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko considers it correct to detain Belarusian opponent Maria Kolesnikova on the border with Ukraine. Said this in an interview with Russian media on September 8, said on the air of “Russia 1” TV host Evgeny Rozhkov, who participated in the conversation with Lukashenko.

According to the propagandist, Lukashenka said that Kolesnikova “really wanted to escape” to Ukraine, because she allegedly has a sister there.

“He, as a border guard, believes that he was detained correctly,” Rozhkov said. According to him, Belarus is asking Ukraine to extradite coordinating council press secretary Anton Rodnenkov and council executive secretary Ivan Kravtsov.

On the morning of 7 September, in Minsk, Kolesnikova was arrested and taken away by unknown men. Furthermore, Rodnenkov, the press secretary of the opposition coordination council, and the council’s executive secretary, Kravtsov, stopped contacting. Minsk police said they had not detained Kolesnikova.

On September 8, the Belarusian border service said that Kolesnikova, Rodnenkov and Kravtsov passed border control at the Belarus-Ukraine border this morning. Initially, the representative of the Belarusian State Border Committee, Anton Bychkovsky, said that the three had crossed the border. He then said that Kolesnikov was “kicked” out of the car at the border, while Rodnenkov and Kravtsov managed to escape to Ukraine. Pro-government Belarusian media reported on Kolesnikova’s arrest.

The State Border Service of Ukraine reported that Rodnenkov and Kravtsov are now in Ukraine, and Kolesnikova did not arrive at the Ukrainian checkpoint. Deputy Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko said the three were forcibly expelled to discredit the Belarusian opposition. Kolesnikov, according to him, could not be expelled, because “this brave woman took steps to prevent her from crossing the border. ” According to media reports, the opposition woman tore up her passport.

The member of the Presidium of the Opposition Coordination Council, Maxim Znak, stressed that Kolesnikova expressed a clear position: under no circumstances will she leave the country, only by force. “At least the day before yesterday, she was absolutely sure of that,” he said.

Mass protests have been going on in Belarus since August 9. The protesters believe that the results of the presidential elections were falsified. According to official data, Lukashenka won with 80.1% of the voters. Opposition candidate Tikhanovskaya came in second with 10.1% of the vote. At the same time, alternative exit polls showed the opposite picture: Tikhanovskaya’s confident victory.

The Belarusian security forces violently dispersed the demonstrations, in particular with the use of stun grenades, rubber bullets and water cannons. During the protests, about 10,000 protesters were detained and hundreds were injured and wounded. According to official figures, killed four protesters.
