The Belarusian president believes that in connection with the end of the NATO exercises, the danger has passed and the army can return to its permanent location.

On Saturday, September 12, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko proposed to the country’s Defense Ministry to withdraw troops from the country’s western border, where they have been since the beginning of NATO exercises, BelTA reports.

It is noted that Lukashenka ordered the ministry to assess the feasibility of the troops remaining close to the border after the completion of the NATO exercises.

The president stressed that the country cannot keep the Armed Forces in such numbers for a long time without the need, as now, and given that the NATO exercises have ended, the issue of withdrawing the army from the border should be considered.

“Besides, it is not cheap,” he added.

However, as Lukashenko noted, if the situation has not changed near the Belarusian border, the country’s authorities will react.

“In a word, new actions by our Armed Forces on the western border, based on the situation that is developing in Poland and Lithuania,” he stressed.

As reported, after the start of the protests in Belarus, Lukashenka accused Lithuania and Poland of interfering in the country’s internal affairs. Lukashenko also accused his neighbors of aggravating the situation near the western border of Belarus and deployed half the army along the border.
