Today, November 7, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant. He called its launch a historic event.

BelTA informs about it.

“Everything is so mundane, as if the subway was built. It is a historic moment: the country is becoming a nuclear power,” Lukashenka said.

In addition, he preliminarily examined the territory of the station from a helicopter. Lukashenka will also get acquainted with the facilities of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. In particular, he will visit the control building of the first power unit, where, as planned, he will give permission to increase the electrical capacity of the power unit (up to 400 MW) according to the program. This launch has already taken place.

It is observed that the BelNPP with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is being built according to the Russian project AES-2006 with third generation pressurized water reactors with increased safety.

Let us remind you that the first BelNPP power unit was connected to the Belarusian power system this week.

After that, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry sent a protest note to Belarus calling for the launch of the nuclear power plant (BelNPP), built near the border with Lithuania, to be stopped.

Also on the eve of Lukashenka said that Belarus needs to build another nuclear power plant.
